College Age Training
When you sign up for a college trip, you will be sent a packet to help you prepare for the trip and to begin fundraising. For the 8 Week Experience, training occurs during the first week of your experience. For those going on a 2-3 Week Experience, you will also receive a packet, detailing where you will be going and beginning your fundraising process too. Your training will be planned during a time that works for all team members. In either case, there will be assignments that will need to be completed and turned into YMI by the deadline dates. Since our college participants are at least 18 years of age, and therefore adults, it is up to each participant to make sure they meet their fundraising and assignment deadlines.
The college age training fulfills the same role as a YMI Team training for high school age youth but on a much deeper level. During the week-long training a college team will:
- Spend a significant amount of time in Bible Study.
- Wrestle with the application of biblical principles in a cross-cultural environment.
- Learn specifics about the culture they will be traveling to.
- Participate in team building activities.
- Participate in a 1-2 day inner city or cross cultural ministry.
While there will be a quick review of the basics of the Gospel message and participant's testimonies, the college training will focus much more on how to properly communicate the Gospel in different settings. Discussion of best ministry practices and a participant's own spiritual growth will be an important part of the training.
